LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Crouse Hospital College of Nursing for
serving the Central New York Community for 100 years

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  to  recognize  those
organizations  within  our  midst,  which  have  demonstrated consistent
excellence while bringing great pride and enjoyment to the  citizens  of
our great State; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is  the  intent  of  this  Legislative  Body  to
commemorate  the  100th  Anniversary  of  the Crouse Hospital College of
Nursing; and
  WHEREAS, Founded in 1913 as  the  Crouse-Irving  Training  School  for
Nurses,  Crouse  Hospital  College  of  Nursing today exists as a highly
regarded nursing education program; and
  WHEREAS, Since its inception, Crouse Hospital College of  Nursing  has
remained  dedicated  to  providing  its  students with the most advanced
nursing education; and
  WHEREAS, Throughout its long and  esteemed  history,  Crouse  Hospital
College of Nursing has overcome change, yet, its tradition of excellence
has remained; and
  WHEREAS, Crouse Hospital, as currently configured, came into existence
in  1968 through the merger of Crouse Irving Hospital and Syracuse Memo-
rial Hospital; and
  WHEREAS, Prior to this establishment of Crouse Irving Memorial  Hospi-
tal, the two separate hospitals each had their own respective schools of
nursing; and
  WHEREAS,  In 1991, the Marley Education Center, which currently houses
the school of nursing, opened and was renamed Crouse Hospital School  of
Nursing in 1997 to reflect the name change of the hospital; and
  WHEREAS,  In  2011,  the  Crouse  Hospital  School of Nursing became a
College of Nursing; and
  WHEREAS, The mission of Crouse  Hospital  College  of  Nursing  is  to
prepare  a  clinically  competent  professional  nurse  for hospital and
community practice; and
  WHEREAS, To do so, Crouse Hospital  College  of  Nursing  teaches  its
students  to  provide  holistic  and compassionate approaches to care by
assisting individuals to attain or maintain their optimum state of well-
ness and to respect clients as  culturally  diverse  individuals  within
communities, groups, and families; and
  WHEREAS,  Crouse  Hospital  College  of Nursing recognizes health as a
dynamic state, reflecting integration of mind, body, and spirit; and
  WHEREAS, Crouse Hospital College of Nursing demonstrates excellence in
education by utilizing dynamic learning environments, recognizing chang-
es in healthcare, supporting student centered and practice-based  educa-
tion,  promoting  lifelong  learning and advanced education, encouraging
interaction, exploration, and collaborative learning, and  incorporating
evidence-based practice in multiple venues; and
  WHEREAS,  Crouse  Hospital  College  of  Nursing  students embrace the
Central New York community that serves them as they learn to  serve  the
community; and
  WHEREAS,  Through  the years, the school has graduated more than 5,000
professional nurses who  have  gone  on  to  pursue  successful  nursing
careers around the country; and
  WHEREAS, Graduates of Crouse Hospital College of Nursing reflect char-
acteristics of honesty, integrity, and personal responsibility; and
  WHEREAS,  Crouse  Hospital College of Nursing is dedicated to honoring
the history, accomplishments and memories of the past 100 years; and

  WHEREAS, All Crouse alumni, nurses, retired nurses, and all  those  in
the  medical  profession, members of the Central New York community, and
friends of Crouse Hospital College of Nursing are invited  to  celebrate
over the course of the year 2013; and
  WHEREAS,  In  May  2013, as part of its 100th anniversary celebration,
Crouse Hospital College of  Nursing  presented  an  all-day  educational
conference  featuring  national evidence-based practice nursing leaders;
and
  WHEREAS, In celebration of 100 years, Crouse Hospital College of Nurs-
ing will host its first-ever Homecoming Weekend and 100 Year Gala Dinner
Dance October 18-20th, inspiring chances to rekindle old friendships and
memories; and
  WHEREAS, The Central New York community is enhanced by Crouse Hospital
College of Nursing; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate the 100th anniversary of Crouse Hospital College of Nursing;
and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to Ann Sedore, PhD, RN, Director of the Crouse Hospital College
of Nursing.
