Mourning the death of Michael A. Najarian, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  mourning  the  death  of  Michael  A. Najarian,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body  to  pay  tribute  to
citizens  of  the  State  of  New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Michael A. Najarian of Binghamton, New York, died on May  19,
2013, at the age of 66; and
  WHEREAS,  Michael  A. Najarian distinguished himself in his profession
and by his  sincere  dedication  and  substantial  contribution  to  the
welfare of his community; and
  WHEREAS,  A  consummate  leader,  Michael  A. Najarian was a dedicated
firefighter, serving the Endicott Fire Department  for  over  36  years,
retiring  with  the esteemed rank of Captain, truly valuing every day of
his service; and
  WHEREAS, Retiring from the fire department, Michael A. Najarian became
the Superintendent of the Binghamton State Office Building in 2007,  and
fostered  a successful work environment that led to many improvements to
the building, including the cooling water systems and the air condition-
ing chiller; and
  WHEREAS, Michael A. Najarian demonstrated a shrewd and attentive  work
ethic  that  bridged the gap between Albany and contractors, and insured
that these improvements were done efficiently and often at great savings
to New York State; and
  WHEREAS, Attentive not only to improving the conditions of  the  Bing-
hamton  State  Office  Building's  systems,  Michael A. Najarian built a
strong team and work environment through his "Open Door Policy" and  his
personal character qualities of always being approachable and supportive
of  employee  ideas to overcome problems endeared him to those he worked
with; and
  WHEREAS, During the Flood of 2011, Michael  A.  Najarian  spent  three
days  in  the  Binghamton  State  Office Building making arrangements to
remove flood  water,  and  personally  cleaning,  and  removing  damaged
contents  alongside  the  other  employees  so  that  the building could
recover and reopen as quickly as possible; and
  WHEREAS, As Democratic Chairman of Broome County, his fervor for poli-
tics was evident and appreciated by those  he  served,  a  passion  only
superseded by his enthusiasm for golf; and
  WHEREAS,  Predeceased  by  his  mother,  Roberta  Najarian, Michael A.
Najarian is survived by his father, Michael Najarian; son,  Michael  P.;
daughter,  Cindy;  sister,  Bobbie  (Bill)  Burns; uncle, Walter Youlls;
niece, Marisa (Joel) Mane; great-niece, Kazmira; and two  grandchildren,
Mariah  and  Josh  Najarian; as well as beloved friends, Barbara Nojaim,
the Nojaim family, Marty and Jacki Gerchman; and
  WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued  with  a  sense  of
compassion,  Michael  A. Najarian leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of  Michael  A.  Najarian,  distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Michael A. Najarian.
