LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  Roger Barnhart upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished service as  Coordinator
of the Chenango County Toys for Tots

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have devoted
themselves  to  faithfully serving the best interests of their community
and the needs of its residents; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Roger Barnhart upon the occasion of his retirement after many  years  of
distinguished  service  as  Coordinator  of the Chenango County Toys for
Tots; and
  WHEREAS, Born and raised in Bainbridge, New York, Roger Barnhart grad-
uated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central School in 1984;  he  then  joined
the  United  States  Marine  Corps, and worked as an Avionics Technician
from 1984 until 1989; he retired from the military  in  2005,  with  the
rank of Sergeant, after 21 years of devoted service; and
  WHEREAS,  In  1989,  Roger Barnhart immediately began volunteering his
time and energies to the Chenango County Toys for Tots; since  then,  it
has  been  recorded that Roger has brought holiday gifts to more than an
estimated 35,000 children; and
  WHEREAS, Toys for Tots was founded in 1947, by Marine reservist  Major
William  L.  Hendricks; this valued organization has striven against all
odds to make sure as many children as possible avoid suffering a joyless
Christmas; and
  WHEREAS, Roger Barnhart believes the toys are more than  just  things;
the toys are really tools and symbols for parents to show their children
they  care  about  them, and for the children to know deep down they are
loved; and
  WHEREAS, In addition to Toys for Tots, Roger Barnhart has  volunteered
with  the  Boy Scouts of America as a mentor, Assistant Scoutmaster, and
Scoutmaster since November of 1988; he is  also  a  member  of  American
Legion Post 806; and
  WHEREAS,  An  Elder  at  the  First Presbyterian Church of Bainbridge,
Roger Barnhart has been employed as a  Postmaster  with  the  South  New
Berlin Post Office since October of 1992; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the practice of this Legislative Body that when indi-
viduals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all  the  citizens  of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Roger Barnhart upon the occasion of his retirement as  Coordinator
of  the Chenango County Toys for Tots, and to wish him continued success
in all his future endeavors; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Roger Barnhart.
