LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring the great work and dedication The Cpl.
Michael Mayne Cookie Corps provide to the men and women  of  the  United
States Military

WHEREAS,  From  time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals  it  wishes  to  recognize  for  their  valued
contributions  to  the  success  and  progress  of  society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize and  honor
the  great  work  and  dedication  The  Cpl.  Michael Mayne Cookie Corps
provide to the men and women of the United States Military; and
  WHEREAS, In 2009, The Cpl. Michael Mayne Cookie Corps was  created  to
honor  the  memory  of Fallen Star Corporal Michael Mayne, of Burlington
Flats, New York, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq on February 23,
2009; and
  WHEREAS, This benevolent organization was the brainchild  of  Herkimer
County  Hunger  Coalition founder, R. J. Lenarcic, and is coordinated by
Laura Hailston; and
  WHEREAS, Comprised of over 50 volunteers from  throughout  the  Mohawk
Valley,  each  month these volunteers are assigned to provide one of the
following items: baked goods, snacks, beverages,  candy  or  toiletries;
and
  WHEREAS,  Then, every month the volunteer drivers deliver the goods to
the Corporal Gregory Harris  Military  Courtesy  Room,  located  at  the
Hancock Airport, in Syracuse, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Corporal  Gregory  Harris was a Syracuse area Marine who was
captured during the Vietnam War, and is still unaccounted for today; and
  WHEREAS, Staffed by volunteers, many of whom are veterans, The Courte-
sy Room is available 24 hours every  day  and  is  equipped  with  tele-
visions,  recliners, blankets/pillows, wi-fi access, computers, a micro-
wave, and much more; and
  WHEREAS, To date, over 8,000 soldiers and Marines have made use of its
accommodations, providing these men and women with a stopover site while
they are in transit; and
  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget  the  courage
with  which  these men and women serve their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed  to  those  who  gave  their
lives  for their beloved Nation, and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when  organiza-
tions  of  such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all  the  citizens  of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the great work and dedication The Cpl. Michael Mayne Cookie  Corps
provide  to  the  men and women of the United States Military; and be it
further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to R. J. Lenarcic, Laura Hailston, and to the family of the late
Corporal Michael Mayne.
