LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  mourning  the  death  of  Richard  M. Giberson,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor  those  indi-
viduals  whose  character and achievements best exemplify the ideals and
values cherished by this great State of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  it is the sense of this Legislative Body to mourn
the death of Richard M. Giberson who passed away on Saturday,  April  6,
2013; he was a man devoted to serving his community and his family; and
  WHEREAS,  Richard  M.  Giberson was born in Olean, New York, on August
18, 1964, to James and Carol Giberson; and
  WHEREAS, After graduating from Hinsdale High School in  1982,  Richard
M.    Giberson  volunteered  to  serve his country by joining the United
States Army; he served on active duty until  1985,  and  in  the  United
States Army Reserve until 1988; and
  WHEREAS,  After  working for the Hinsdale Central School and the Hins-
dale Post Office, Richard M. Giberson took on a full-time role in  1989,
as a rural route carrier at the Cuba Post Office; and
  WHEREAS,  Demonstrating a deep commitment to his community, Richard M.
Giberson was a life member of the Hinsdale Maplehurst - Pleasant  Valley
Volunteer  Fire  Department  and  served as an Assistant Chief; he was a
member of the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chambers  Post  1434,  and
previously served as a member of the Hinsdale Youth Commission; and
  WHEREAS,  Richard  M.  Giberson  played a vital role in many community
projects, including a project to make improvements at Hinsdale  Memorial
Park;  he  also  was a leader and driving force in the establishment and
continued success of the Don Kent Memorial Horse Pull and in the contin-
ued development of the Ischua Falling Leaves Regatta; and
  WHEREAS, This year's horse pull is named the Don Kent and Rich  "Pork"
Giberson  Memorial  Horse Pull in honor of Richard M. Giberson; Hinsdale
American Legion Post 1434 sponsors the horse pull which features some of
the top horse pulling teams throughout the Northeast; proceeds from  the
event  benefit veterans services including the LEEK Foundation - Wounded
Warriors and the Cattaraugus -  Allegany  Counties  Joint  Veterans  Van
Service; and
  WHEREAS,  An  avid  outdoorsman,  Richard  M. Giberson participated in
hunting, fishing and sports including softball, golf and darts; and
  WHEREAS, Richard M. Giberson was involved for more than 10 years  with
the  Hinsdale  Adult  Softball  Tournament, and he took great delight in
being active with Hinsdale Youth Sports; he played an important role  in
the  youth  baseball and football teams, and he worked on all the fields
and field buildings; and
  WHEREAS, This devoted family man is survived by his wife, Darcy;  they
shared  24  years  of marriage; together Richard and Darcy have raised a
son, Cody, and a daughter, Shelby; and
  WHEREAS, Richard M. Giberson was a terrific husband, father and friend
- a man known for his smile, for his laughter, and for his dedication to
the community; he will be missed greatly; and
  WHEREAS, Observing that special recognition should be given  to  those
who  work so assiduously for the betterment of their communities and for
their profound commitment to their fellow citizens in this great  Empire
State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize and honor the contributions of Richard M. Giberson,  and  to
express deepest condolences to his family and friends; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Richard M. Giberson.
