LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bishop Adolphus D. Lyon and First Lady
Lyon  for their faithful service to the First Baptist Full Gospel Church
of Brownsville, Inc. and its community

WHEREAS, The spiritual guidance and nurturing of  the  citizens  of  the
State  of New York is of great importance to the vitality and well-being
of our communities; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Bishop Adolphus D. Lyon and First Lady Lyon for their  faithful  service
to  the  First  Baptist  Full Gospel Church of Brownsville, Inc. and its
community; and
  WHEREAS, Bishop A.D. Lyon and Lady Lyon dedicated their lives spiritu-
ally at an early age and in 1962 Bishop Lyon was called into the  minis-
try to preach the gospel; and
  WHEREAS,  Bishop  Lyon  has  established  many  new outreach programs,
including the Feeding and Clothing Ministries, Wednesday Noonday  Commu-
nity Services along with many others; and
  WHEREAS,  Bishop  Lyon  was  a proud member of the military serving in
World War II, European Theater in the 614th Tank Destroyer; as  a  Staff
Sergeant serving in battle in Germany, Austria and France, he was honor-
ably discharged in 1945 with three Bronze Stars; and
  WHEREAS,  Bishop  Lyon  received  Honorary Degrees from the Academy of
Newark Bible College and Baltimore College, along  with  numerous  cita-
tions from the City of New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Bishop Lyon serves as Spiritual Liaison at the 73rd Precinct
and is active in community affairs; he is also a member of  the  Trustee
Board  at  the  Brookdale Hospital Center in Brooklyn, and is one of the
founders of United to Save our Children Drug and Alcohol Abuse  Program;
and
  WHEREAS,  A  founder  of  Brooklyn  Clergy Task Force, Bishop Lyon was
consecrated Bishop on September 23, 2003; he  cares  for  the  spiritual
growth  of  the  ministry  and  is the Chancellor of Full Gospel Baptist
Bible College of New York; and
  WHEREAS, Because of the dedication of  Bishop  and  Lady  Lyon,  First
Baptist  Full  Gospel  Church  of  Brownsville, Inc. remains a spiritual
focal point for many in Brooklyn; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when people  of
such  noble  aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend those  indi-
viduals for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bishop Adolphus D. Lyon and First Lady Lyon for  their  faithful
service to the First Baptist Full Gospel Church of Brownsville, Inc. and
its community; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bishop Adolphus D. Lyon and First Lady Lyon.
