LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Shirley and Stan Romaine upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Persistent Peacemakers
Award by the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shirley and Stan Romaine upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Persistent Peacemakers Award by the Long Island Alli-
ance for Peaceful Alternatives; and
WHEREAS; Shirley and Stan Romaine of Great Neck SANE/Peace Action were
the recipients of the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives
first annual Persistent Peacemakers Award for their lifetime activism in
the cause of peace; and
WHEREAS, The Romaines were honored at the Alliance's annual Kairos
Awards dinner program on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Hofstra Univer-
sity; in presenting the Award, Alliance chairperson Andrea Libresco
thanked the Romaines for their over 50 years of commitment to peace,
nuclear disarmament and social justice; and
WHEREAS, Shirley Romaine is an actress and was for 25 years the host
of Cablevision's "Artscene on Long Island"; she is a founding member of
the Great Neck Arts Center and of Reach Out America where she served as
co-chair, coordinator of Performing Arts for the Great Neck Adult
Program and co-chair of both the North Shore Community Arts Council and
the Cinema Arts Centre; and
WHEREAS, Stan Romaine is a retired publisher who in addition to
SANE/Peace Action, has been a strong proponent for the upgrade of the
Great Neck Library; and
WHEREAS, Shirley and Stan Romaine's distinguished record merits the
recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; they are
true assets to society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shirley and Stan Romaine upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Persistent Peacemakers Award by the Long Island Alli-
ance for Peaceful Alternatives; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shirley and Stan Romaine.
