proclaim October 7, 2013, as Child Health Day in the State of New York

WHEREAS, The youth of today are our society's most precious resource; it

and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to memorialize

Health Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the national
observance of Child Health Day; and
WHEREAS, Observed annually on the first Monday in October, Child
Health Day, provides an opportunity, on the national level, for all
agencies and organizations interested in child welfare to unite and
create activities and programs to increase people's awareness of the
need for year-round attention to protect and develop children's health
in the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Since 1928, Presidents of the United States have issued proc-
lamations in observance of Child Health Day, encouraging health profes-
sionals and health organizations across the Nation to provide educa-
tional resources for parents, children and schools about issues
impacting the health and well-being of children and youth; and
WHEREAS, The health challenges and concerns affecting today's youth
include healthy choices, fitness, and child obesity prevention, as well
as such infant and maternal health concerns as smoking cessation, safe
sleeping, and prenatal care; and
WHEREAS, In addition, a safe, clean environment in which children can
live and grow is essential to their well-being, including clean drinking
water and clean air; and
WHEREAS, The great State of New York is committed to the positive
growth and development of all  children  residing  in  our  communities;
Child Health Day presents an opportunity for this Legislative Body to
reaffirm this commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Monday, October 7,
2013, as Child Health Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with
the national observance of Child Health Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
