LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Edward Ham upon the occasion of
his designation as a 2013 National Finalist in the Neuroscience Research
Prize Competition sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology and the
Child Neurology Society

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those who, by achieving outstanding success in their educa-
tional and scientific endeavors, have inspired and brought pride to our
majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the dedication and commitment of our young people who distinguish them-
selves through excellence in science competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Edward Ham upon the occasion of his designation as a 2013 National
Finalist in the Neuroscience Research Prize Competition sponsored by the
American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology Society; and
WHEREAS, Edward Ham of Herricks High School has been named one of nine
National Finalists in the 2013 Neuroscience Research Prize Competition
sponsored by the American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology
Society; and
WHEREAS, This competition encourages and rewards high school students
who explore the world of the brain and nervous system through laboratory
research; he completed his neuroscience research project at the Albert
Einstein College of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, The son of Sun and Young Ham of Roslyn, New York, Edward
Ham's project is entitled "The Effect of Size and Charge on the Diffu-
sive Permeability of Nanoparticles Across an In-Vitro Model of the Blood
Brain Barrier"; he was mentored by Mrs. Renee Barcia, the Herricks High
School science research teacher; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to celebrate the educational and scientific
accomplishments of remarkable schools, students, coaches and teachers in
this great Empire State; Edward Ham is indeed such a distinguished and
remarkable prize-winning New York State student; and
WHEREAS, The designation and outstanding performance of Edward Ham as
a 2013 National Finalist in the Neuroscience Research Prize Competition
has clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of Herricks High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Edward Ham upon the occasion of his designation as a 2013
National Finalist in the Neuroscience Research Prize Competition spon-
sored by the American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology Soci-
ety; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edward Ham.
