LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION honoring Sister Mary Albert, CSJ, upon the occa-
sion of her designation for special recognition  by  the  Saint  Joachim
Roman Catholic Church, on June 22, 2013

WHEREAS,  The  character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the  faithful
concern  and  selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to recognize and  pay  tribute
to  those  individuals  of firm belief who have devoted their purposeful
lives to the service of faith and community; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is justly proud to honor
Sister Mary Albert, CSJ,  upon  the  occasion  of  her  designation  for
special  recognition  by  the Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church at its
34th Annual Diamond Ball, to be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at  The
Woodmere Club; and
  WHEREAS, Sister Mary Albert, CSJ, has continually demonstrated tremen-
dous  competence, extraordinary intelligence, and diligent leadership in
her unwavering service to both her community and faith; and
  WHEREAS, Sister Mary Albert was born  into  the  family  of  Mary  and
Albert Thompson, the seventh of ten children; she attended Saint Francis
Xavier Parish School and Church in Brooklyn, New York, and Bishop McDon-
nell High School; after graduation, she worked in National City Bank for
two years; and
  WHEREAS, Sister Mary Albert chose religious life, entering the Sisters
of  Saint  Joseph  in  Brentwood,  New  York,  on  February 2, 1944; she
received both her religious and professional training as an educator  at
the  Motherhouse,  and  professed  her  final vows on the Feast of Saint
Augustine in 1949; and
  WHEREAS, After several years of teaching throughout the Brooklyn Dioc-
ese, Sister Mary Albert became involved in developing  and  teaching  in
non-graded  learning centers, a new concept in education at the time, at
Our Lady of Victory School in Floral Park and then Saint Martha's School
in Uniondale; and
  WHEREAS, Sister Mary Albert then began her more than 55-year relation-
ship with Saint Joachim Parish; she was asked  to  start  a  three-grade
learning  center  at the Saint Joachim School, and she faithfully under-
took the endeavor, working in the school three days per week, and spend-
ing two days in the parish providing pastoral care to the sick and  home
bound; and
  WHEREAS,  Sister  Mary  Albert  soon assumed the full-time ministry of
Coordinator of Pastoral Care and Ministry, including the care of several
other parish programs; she was also appointed to the Advisory  Board  of
Saint John's Hospital; and
  WHEREAS,  Sister  Mary Albert now lives in Saint Mary's Manor, Inwood;
she still tends to the needs of others at  Saint  Joachim  Parish  on  a
daily  basis,  including  home visits and the ministry for the bereaved;
and
  WHEREAS, Throughout 70 years as a Sister of Saint Joseph, a period  of
constructive  involvement, Sister Mary Albert, CSJ has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, This distinguished woman of God  has  always  given  enlight-
enment,  guidance  and  wisdom to the many entrusted to her care and has
administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual  and  corporal
needs of all; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend  that  indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Mary Albert, CSJ, upon the occasion of her designation  for
special recognition by the Saint Joachim Roman Catholic Church on Satur-
day, June 22, 2013; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sister Mary Albert, CSJ.
