Commemorating the 225th Anniversary of the Town of Saratoga, New York

LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commemorating the 225th Anniversary of the Town
of Saratoga, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and  commem-
orate  the  proud  and  distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its  long-
standing  traditions,  this  Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 225th Anniversary of the Town of Saratoga, New York, in  Sara-
toga County, New York; and
  WHEREAS,  Saratoga  was  founded  because it was at the "four corners"
along the Hudson River with easy access to the Mohawk River, Lake  Cham-
plain,  and  Connecticut  River  Valley; the Town of Saratoga has a rich
history playing important roles in three world wars in the 18th  Century
including a series of battles in both King George's War and the American
War of Independence; and
  WHEREAS, The Town of Saratoga was a hub of international trade for the
rich  natural  resources from the area 225 years ago; the waterways were
an important source of both power for the mills  and  transportation  to
deliver products to a worldwide market; and
  WHEREAS, The community became a great source of wealth and power for a
number  of  prominent  families  including the Schuylers and the Rensse-
laers; today, its natural resources and waterways support  a  number  of
thriving  agricultural  and  recreational businesses, which make it well
poised to join the rest of Saratoga County in a thriving  21st  Century;
  WHEREAS,   The  Town  of  Stillwater  played  a  significant  role  in
Saratoga's military history, including the Battles  of  Saratoga  during
the  American Revolution, and was host to the first meeting of the Sara-
toga County Board of Supervisors in 1791; and
  WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of growth
and change, the Town of Saratoga continues its commitment  to  enhancing
the  quality  of  life  of  its  citizens, ensuring a positive business,
institutional and  educational  climate,  and  providing  all  essential
services; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 225th Anniversary of the Town  of  Saratoga,  New  York,
recognizing  the  significance  of  the role it continues to play in the
life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Town of Saratoga.
