LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending  Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow
Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Second Annual  Summer  Soiree,  on
June 4, 2013, and paying tribute to its outstanding honorees

WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New  York  State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions  and  individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend  Opportu-
nities for a Better Tomorrow Inc. (OBT) upon the occasion of hosting its
Second Annual Summer Soiree; this auspicious event will be held on Tues-
day,  June 4, 2013, at Battery Gardens (inside Battery Park), Manhattan,
New York; the evening will also honor two individuals who have supported
OBT's mission over the years; and
  WHEREAS, The mission of Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow is to help
disadvantaged youth and  adults  recognize  their  own  self-worth,  and
advance  towards  self-sufficiency  and  financial  security through job
training, academic reinforcement, improved life skills,  job  placement,
and support services; and
  WHEREAS, 2013 marks the 30th Anniversary of Opportunities for a Better
Tomorrow,  which  was  founded  by Sister Mary Franciscus in response to
being asked by community leaders in Sunset Park to design a program  for
disconnected youth dropping out of high school and getting involved with
street gangs; and
  WHEREAS,  Today,  Opportunities  for  a  Better  Tomorrow's nationally
recognized youth education and job  training  programs  operate  out  of
three  locations  in  Brooklyn,  and serve over 3,000 people annually; a
fourth program site in Jamaica, New York, is forthcoming; and
  WHEREAS, The two exemplary individuals being honored at  Opportunities
for  a  Better  Tomorrow's  Summer Soiree are being recognized for their
immeasurable contributions  to  advancing  Opportunities  for  a  Better
Tomorrow's  vision,  as  well  as  their  commitment to serving New York
City's communities; and
  WHEREAS, Frank Morizio Jr., CLTC, LUTCF is Chair Emeritus at  Opportu-
nities  for  a  Better  Tomorrow, and has been in the financial services
industry for over 13 years, currently working at  the  Bridge  Financial
Group, an office of MetLife; and
  WHEREAS,  Frank  Morizio  Jr.  has twice been honored with The MetLife
Foundation Volunteer Service Award; he is a member of the Million Dollar
Round Table and the National  Association  of  Insurance  and  Financial
Advisors  and has been a recipient of The National Quality Award on more
than one occasion; and
  WHEREAS, Jack Lund serves as President and Chief Executive Officer  of
the YMCA of Greater New York, the largest YMCA in the United States; his
service  to  YMCA  spans  35 years, ranging from top leadership roles to
hands-on grassroots experience working with communities; and
  WHEREAS, Jack Lund is dedicated to strengthening  the  foundations  of
New York City's communities by developing key new programs; he pioneered
the Next Century city-wide YMCA branch capital renewal program that will
build  or  renovate more than 1.3 million square feet of facility space;
and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those organiza-
tions and individuals who enhance the well-being and vitality  of  their
community,  and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all  the  citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow Inc.  upon the  occasion  of
hosting  its  Second  Annual  Summer  Soiree,  and to pay tribute to its
outstanding honorees; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to  Opportunities  for a Better Tomorrow Inc. and the aforemen-
tioned honorees.
