LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION commending the Western New York Maritime Charter
School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps upon the occasion  of
its designation as a Distinguished Unit

WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious institutions within the State of New York which have made  a
substantial impact on the quality of life in their communities and whose
focus is on behalf of young people and their futures; and
  WHEREAS,  Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  commend
the  Western New York Maritime Charter School Naval Junior Reserve Offi-
cer Training Corps upon the occasion of its  designation  as  a  Distin-
guished Unit; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Western New York Maritime Charter School is a four year
public high school in Buffalo, New  York;  all  students  attending  the
school  are in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC),
a program that instills the Navy  Core  Values  of  Honor,  Courage  and
Commitment; and
  WHEREAS,  The  Western  New  York Maritime Charter School Naval Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps Unit is in the  top  20  percent  of  all
NJROTC  Units  in  the nation; it has earned the Distinguished Unit with
academic honors designation for three years in a row, a testament to the
drive, determination and devotion of the institution and its cadets; and
  WHEREAS, The purpose of the Western New York Maritime  Charter  School
Naval  Junior  Reserve  Officer Training Corps is to instill in students
the value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal respon-
sibility, and a sense of accomplishment; and
  WHEREAS, The Western New York Maritime  Charter  School  Naval  Junior
Reserve  Officer  Training  Corps is clearly fulfilling its mission; the
current Battalion Commanding Officer received a  Naval  Reserve  Officer
Training Corps scholarship to the Ohio State University, five Cadets are
going  into  Army  Reserve  Officer  Training Corps next year, and eight
Cadets are enlisting into the Armed Services; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  that  when  insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commend  the  Western  New  York  Maritime  Charter  School Naval Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps upon the occasion of its designation as a
Distinguished Unit; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Western New York Maritime  Charter  School  Naval  Junior
Reserve Officer Training Corps.
