LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring  Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak upon the
occasion of his retirement from the Cheektowaga  Police  Department,  on
May 16, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public  service,  demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities  and  this
great Empire State; and
  WHEREAS,  Within  every  community  of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment  and  dedication,
command  the  respect  and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  honor  Lieutenant
Mark  J. Petruniak upon the occasion of his retirement from the Cheekto-
waga Police Department, on May 16, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, Lieutenant Mark J.  Petruniak  gave  the  Cheektowaga  Police
Department  nearly  three  decades of dedicated service, assisting resi-
dents and aiding many neighborhood groups in preventing crime; and
  WHEREAS, Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak joined the police force in Janu-
ary 1984; during that time he received eight letters  of  recommendation
for  his  patrol  work,  including  one letter for subduing an armed man
during a domestic violence incident; he also  led  the  Crime  Resistant
Unit  established  in  1991,  which helps community groups and residents
prevent crime by offering police support and assistance; and
  WHEREAS, In October 1993, Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak was promoted to
sergeant and worked at the desk for six years before becoming  a  patrol
sergeant in November 1999; and
  WHEREAS,  He became the Police Department's community affairs lieuten-
ant in 2005, serving in that capacity for eight years until his  retire-
ment; and
  WHEREAS,  Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak's police work extended to work-
ing within the community; he had  close  ties  with  numerous  taxpayer,
faith-based   and   school   groups,   and   annually   participated  in
Cheektowaga's National Night Out; in 2010  he  received  an  achievement
award for his community work; and
  WHEREAS,  Lieutenant  Mark  J.  Petruniak  was  also  active  in union
affairs; he served for the past two years as treasurer of  the  Captains
and Lieutenants Association; and
  WHEREAS,  Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak has made a significant contrib-
ution to the Cheektowaga community throughout his 29 years of service to
the police force; and
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to  the  preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak upon the occasion of  his  retirement
from the Cheektowaga Police Department; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant Mark J. Petruniak.
