LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Danny Hay in recognition of his prompt
and heroic efforts to rescue three people on New York City subway tracks
from an oncoming train

WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and
commend the concerned and heroic acts of those citizens who would volun-
tarily  take  immediate and appropriate action to protect the health and
safety of others; and
  WHEREAS, At 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 7,  2013,  MTA  train  operator
Danny  Hay of New York City was at the Delancey Street subway station on
his way to work when he observed an unconscious man lying on the  subway
tracks; and
  WHEREAS, Responding without hesitation, or concern for his own welfare
and safety, Danny Hay immediately sought to render assistance by calling
for  the  power to the tracks to be cut off; with the power still on, he
returned to the tracks and found two  Good  Samaritans  along  with  the
unconscious  man still on the tracks in the path of an oncoming F train;
and
  WHEREAS, In response to this life-threatening emergency, Danny Hay ran
to the end of the Delancey Street subway station and flashed  his  flash
light to the operator of the oncoming F train; the operator of the train
was able to successfully stop the train in the nick of time; and
  WHEREAS, For his courage and decisive action, taken without due regard
for  his own personal safety, Danny Hay has aptly demonstrated his char-
acter and compassion for the welfare of others, personifying, by  virtue
of  his  action,  the collective concern of ordinary citizens across the
community of New York State who voluntarily respond without  thought  of
danger or reward when others are in need of help; and
  WHEREAS,  It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize, honor
and pay tribute to those individuals within the State of  New  York  who
perform rescue operations with courage, diligence and precision, result-
ing in heroic life-saving actions; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Danny Hay of New York City in recognition of his prompt and heroic
efforts to rescue three people on New York City subway  tracks  from  an
oncoming train; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Danny Hay.
