LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Levon Helm of Woodstock, New York,
upon the occasion of winning his third consecutive Grammy Award

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Levon Helm of Woodstock, New York, upon the occasion of winning his
third consecutive Grammy Award; and
WHEREAS, A Grammy Award is an accolade by the National Academy of
Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States to recognize outstand-
ing achievement in the music industry; and
WHEREAS, A Grammy Award is the music equivalent of an Emmy Award for
television, a Tony Award for stage and an Academy Award for film; and
WHEREAS, The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, to
honor musical accomplishments by performers for the year 1958; and
WHEREAS, At the 54th annual Grammy Awards ceremony, held on February
12, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, Levon Helm
of Woodstock, New York, captured the award for Best Americana album for
"Ramble at the Ryman" recorded at Nashville's Ryman Theater; and
WHEREAS, The 2012 Grammy Award won by Levon Helm of Woodstock, New
York, was his third consecutive Grammy Award; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Levon Helm has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the respect
and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his dedication, commitment and efforts on
behalf of his community and his profession, it is the sense of this
Legislative Body to extend its highest commendation to Levon Helm of
Woodstock, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Levon Helm of Woodstock, New York, upon the occasion of
winning his third consecutive Grammy Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Levon Helm.
