LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rocco Signore upon the occasion of his
designation as a recipient of the New York State Outstanding Physical
Education Award

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding academic and athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Rocco Signore upon the occasion of his designation as a recipient of the
New York State Outstanding Physical Education Award; and
WHEREAS, Each year, high schools across the state select one male and
one female senior who have achieved excellence academically, athlet-
ically and through physical education testing, and who have demonstrated
leadership, character, and a high level of activity in their community;
and
WHEREAS, Rocco Signore embodies all the attributes New York State
educators search for in a candidate for such a prestigious award; he has
excelled over the past four years in every aspect of physical education:
preparedness, commitment, excellence, enthusiasm and most of all, lead-
ership; and
WHEREAS, On December 10, 2012, at an event held at Crest Hollow Coun-
try Club, Rocco Signore of Old Brookville, New York, and a senior at
Chaminade High School, was honored as the recipient of the New York
State-sponsored Outstanding Physical Education Award; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Signore has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the
Boys and Girls Clubs of America that truly set him apart; three years
ago he created a campaign, "Winners Run, Champions Sprint," to utilize
his talent in sprinting to teach children the proper mechanics of
running, acceleration and how to stay fit; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Rocco Signore's clinics provided him with an
opportunity to connect with children at another level and to help them
understand what it means to be a student-athlete; he emphasized the
importance of pursuing their dreams, setting goals and the sacrifices
they must make to achieve them; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Signore always stood out as a young leader in his
community; a great role model for the youth of the community, his char-
acter and leadership serve as an inspiration to those whose passions are
to make a difference in their communities; the impact he has made on
youth is a tribute to his dedication, enthusiasm and tireless efforts;
and
WHEREAS, At Chaminade High School, Rocco Signore has an overall GPA of
3.65 and is a member of the National Honor Society; while achieving
honor roll status every year at Chaminade, he has garnered numerous
awards as a top-ranked sprinter in New York State; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Rocco Signore is the co-captain of the Flyers
Varsity Track squad and also holds several school records; he has
collected gold medals in the 55m, 100m, 200m, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400m
track events; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Rocco Signore's dedication to athletics

is a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and has
developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Rocco Signore's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rocco Signore upon the occasion of his designation as a recipient
of the New York State Outstanding Physical Education Award, and to
commend him for the enduring honor he has brought to his family, his
school and his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rocco Signore.
