LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Jean M. Hudson upon the occasion of
being named Public Health Professional of the Year by the New York State
Association of Health Officials

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jean M. Hudson has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Jean M.
Hudson upon the occasion of being named Public Health Professional of
the Year by the New York State Association of Health Officials; and
WHEREAS, Orange County Commissioner of Health since 2003, Dr. Jean M.
Hudson is the immediate past president of the statewide public health
advocacy and information organization; and
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Jean M. Hudson's luminous leadership, the Orange
County Department of Health participated in an innovative "Sugary Bever-
age" project as part of Healthy Orange efforts to combat chronic
disease; she also led public outreach in the county to prevent West Nile
virus, whooping cough and flu and responded to public health issues
following Tropical Storms Irene, Lee, and Sandy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jean M. Hudson has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Currently president of NYSACHO, Dr. Jean M. Hudson led the
organization's effort against a bill about college immunization records,
which public health officials said would hamper their ability to respond
to outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases on college campuses; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jean M. Hudson also represented NYSACHO and local health
departments on the stakeholder workgroup that helped develop the new
State Health Improvement Plan, also known as the Prevention Agenda, and
she contributed to the statewide DASH-NY obesity prevention project; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jean M. Hudson teaches at New York Medical College as a
distinguished lecturer of epidemiology and community health; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Jean M. Hudson has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Jean M. Hudson has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Jean M. Hudson upon the occasion of being named Public Health
Professional of the Year by the New York State Association of Health
Officials; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Jean M. Hudson
