LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Village of Monticello, New York,
upon the occasion of being named The Bagel Capital

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
acknowledge those cities, towns, and villages which have inspired and
brought pride to our majestic Empire State with their ingenuity and
inventiveness; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Village of Monticello, New York, upon the occasion of being named
The Bagel Capital; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this most auspicious accolade, the Village of
Monticello, New York, will host an annual festival celebrating the
history and popularity of the bagel, to be held from Friday, August 16,
2013, through Sunday, August 18, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The original bagel making machine was invented by Louis Wich-
insky of Hurleyville, New York; and
WHEREAS, A Sullivan County native, Louis Wichinsky has inspired the
world forever because of his unique trend setting achievements and
creativity in the bagel realm; and
WHEREAS, Monticello, with its rich and diverse past, has sealed its
place in history as a unique innovator and as a world symbol of fine
baked goods; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body that when communi-
ties of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Village of Monticello, New York, upon the occasion of being
named The Bagel Capital; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Village of Monticello, New York.
