LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lee Siegel upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Liberty and Livingston Manor
Rotary Clubs

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve in
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently,
has been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lee Siegel
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the
Liberty and Livingston Manor Rotary Clubs to be celebrated at its 4th
Annual Polio Eradication Campaign Dinner on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at
the Club at Villa Roma; proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Polio
Eradication Campaign; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel is being commended for his active support of Rota-
ry International's efforts to rid the world of polio, as well as numer-
ous other international, regional and local community projects; and
WHEREAS, Rotary is a volunteer service organization of 1.2 million men
and women worldwide, who made a commitment to immunize the world's chil-
dren against polio in 1985, and became a spearheading partner in the
Global Polio Eradication Initiative three years later; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel was born and raised in Livingston Manor, and
attended Ithaca College as a music major for three years until he was
drafted in the United States Army, where he served for four and a half
years; and
WHEREAS, Following his discharge from the Army, Lee Siegel returned to
Livingston Manor, where he successfully owned and operated a family
department store for more than 35 years; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel has been an active member of numerous community
organizations, including member and past President of the Livingston
Manor Chamber of Commerce, and charter member since 1954, and past Pres-
ident of The Livingston Manor Rotary Club; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel is an active member and past President of the
Livingston Manor Agudas Achim Synagogue; he served for 20 years on the
Board of Education of the Livingston Manor Central School, and served
five terms as the Town of Rockland Supervisor and on the Sullivan County
Board of Supervisors; his community involvement extends to several other
community clubs and organizations as well; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Lee Siegel has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Lee Siegel and his late wife, Marge, were the proud parents
of three children, Teri, Shelley, and Gary, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the wellbeing and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lee Siegel upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-

nition by the Liberty and Livingston Manor Rotary Clubs; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lee Siegel.
