LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sean Nidermaier upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Boy Scouts of America National Medal of
Heroism for saving his four-year-old sister

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the courage, calm and bravery of those remarkable young people
who perform heroic acts, taking prompt and appropriate action in emer-
gency situations in an effort to preserve the life of another; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sean
Nidermaier upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Boy
Scouts of America National Medal of Heroism for saving his four-year-old
sister; and
WHEREAS, Sean Nidermaier, a 10-year-old fifth grader at the Notre Dame
School in New Hyde Park, received this illustrious award at the roundta-
ble meeting of the county Theodore Roosevelt Council; he is a member of
Boy Scout Troop 544; and
WHEREAS, Sean Nidermaier received this illustrious award for pulling
his sister to the surface of a hotel pool shortly after she had fallen
to the bottom; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished values,
worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is proud to honor an indi-
vidual who would serve to protect it; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional young man should be meritoriously commended
for remaining calm under pressure and for showing valor and true courage
while performing a lifesaving deed; and
WHEREAS, Through his spontaneous and heroic actions, Sean Nidermaier
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of ordi-
nary citizens across the community of New York State who voluntarily
respond when others are in need of help; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sean Nidermaier upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Boy Scouts of America National Medal of Heroism for saving his
four-year-old sister; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sean Nidermaier.
