LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the family of the late Mark B. Davis
upon the passage of Senate Bill 2230, also known as Mark's Law

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the family of
the late Mark B. Davis upon the occasion of the passage of Mark's Law;
and
WHEREAS, At the age of 25, EMT Mark B. Davis was killed in the line of
duty while responding to a call for help in Cape Vincent, New York, on
January 30, 2009; and
WHEREAS, In response to this tragedy, the family of Mark B. Davis
sought to take action and make New York State a safer place for First
Responders and volunteers who put their lives on the line to protect the
public's safety; and
WHEREAS, Through the advocacy of Mark B. Davis' family, Mark's Law was
introduced as a bill in May of 2011, and later became law on January 15,
2013, the day which would have been Mark B. Davis' 29th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Through Mark's Law, our selfless, fearless First Responders
and volunteers who put their lives on the line to protect and serve the
citizens of New York State will now enjoy the maximum protection under
law as a result of the passage of this legislation; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the family of the late Mark B. Davis, Marsha Dickinson, Larry
Dickinson, Michael "Brandon" Dickinson and Maricia Astafan, upon the
passage of Senate Bill 2230, also known as Mark's Law; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Mark B. Davis.
