LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Community Council for Medgar Evers
College upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Spring Leadership Awards
Luncheon on April 21, 2012, and recognizing the day's outstanding hono-
rees

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Community Council for Medgar Evers College upon the occasion of
hosting its Annual Spring Leadership Awards Luncheon, and pay just trib-
ute to the day's honorees on Saturday, April 21, 2012, to be held at
Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Community Council for Medgar Evers College was formed in
the early 1960s at the insistence of community residents to establish a
four year college in the Central Brooklyn Community; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, the Community Council for Medgar Evers College was
incorporated as a not-for-profit organization; and
WHEREAS, The Community Council for Medgar Evers College includes all
residents, organizations, faculty, students and all elected officials of
the Central Brooklyn community; and
WHEREAS, The Community Council for Medgar Evers College actively
participates in providing support to the mission of the College, and
since 1980, has provided scholarships to deserving students through
fundraising events, outside grants and contributions; and
WHEREAS, The Community Council for Medgar Evers College, upon the
occasion of hosting its Annual Spring Leadership Awards Luncheon, is
proud to acknowledge the following 2012 honorees: Colette Burnett, Chief
Executive Officer, Super Wings NY (Business Leadership Award); Jacque-
line Kennedy-Saddler, Vice President, Center Light Health System (Commu-
nity Service Leadership Award); Rev. Dr. Daran H. Mitchell, Pastor,
First A.M.E. Zion Church (Ecumenical Leadership Award); Dean Richard
Jones, Medgar Evers College, CUNY (Education Leadership Award); Ashlee
Thibaud, Class of 2012, Medgar Evers College Preparatory School (Youth
Leadership Award); Agnes M. Abraham, Special Assistant to the Vice Chan-
cellor for Student Affairs, CUNY (Appreciation Award); and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, it is appropriate to publicly proclaim and commend
those individuals for the edification and emulation of others; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Community Council for Medgar Evers College upon the occasion
of hosting its Annual Spring Leadership Awards Luncheon on April 21,
2012, and to pay tribute to the day's outstanding honorees; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Community Council for Medgar Evers College, and the
aforementioned honorees.
