LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commending Edward A. Diana upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by SUNY Orange Foundation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and  serve  the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
  WHEREAS,  Edward  A. Diana has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to  commend  Edward  A.
Diana  upon  the  occasion of his designation for special recognition by
SUNY Orange Foundation; he will be celebrated at  the  foundation's  8th
Annual Leadership Awards Ceremony, featuring The Spirit of Entrepreneur-
ship,  on  Thursday,  April  10,  2014, on the SUNY Orange Newburgh, New
York, campus; and
  WHEREAS, Retired Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana has dedicated
his worthy life to enhancing the quality of life for others, whether  as
a public servant, an educator, a business owner, or as a volunteer; and
  WHEREAS,  Edward A. Diana assumed the mantle of leadership at multiple
levels of government in a public service career that spanned decades; he
was first elected County Executive in 2001 and served  with  distinction
for  three terms; prior to his service as County Executive, this commit-
ted man served 12 years as a county legislator, and he  also  served  as
councilman  as  well as deputy supervisor in the Town of Wallkill in the
1980s; and
  WHEREAS, In his role as County Executive, Edward A. Diana served  with
integrity and conviction; among his many accomplishments he: was respon-
sible  for  the  opening  of  a  state-of-the-art  $40 million Emergency
Services Complex in Goshen, New York; made  significant  investments  to
promote  business  and  economic  growth;  established the Orange County
Business Accelerator; and encouraged the Port Authority of New York  and
New Jersey to assume operations at Stewart Airport; and
  WHEREAS,  Edward  A.  Diana  worked as an educator, physical education
instructor, and coach in the Minisink Valley School  District  for  more
than 30 years; at the same time, he owned and operated the popular down-
town Middletown restaurant "Diana's" established by his grandparents and
parents in 1936; and
  WHEREAS, Over the years Edward A. Diana has been a member and support-
er  of  numerous civic organizations, including the Board of Trustees of
the Orange County Citizens Foundation, the boards of the Sons of  Italy,
the  Middletown  Elks,  UNICO,  and  the  Goshen Historic Track; he is a
former member of the Middletown Kiwanis, past president of  the  Middle-
town  High  School  Booster Club, and a former member of both the Horton
Hospital and the Arden Hill Hospital Foundation boards; and
  WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period  of  his  community  service,  a
period  of  constructive involvement, Edward A. Diana has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of  others  which  Edward  A.  Diana  has  displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED,  That  this  Legislative  Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Edward A. Diana upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by SUNY Orange Foundation; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edward A. Diana.
