LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ailayia Demand upon the occasion of
breaking the Watervliet High School Varsity Girls' Basketball Team's
all-time scoring record

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Ailayia Demand upon the occasion of breaking the Watervliet High School
Varsity Girls' Basketball Team's all-time scoring record; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, January 26, 2013, Ailayia Demand became the
Watervliet Girls' Varsity Basketball Team's all-time scoring leader; and
WHEREAS, Ailayia Demand has been a member, starting point guard and
cornerstone of the Watervliet Girl's Varsity Basketball team for five
years; and
WHEREAS, During her illustrious high school basketball career, Ailayia
Demand has been named to the TROY RECORD's, All-City team four times,
twice as Player of the Year; in addition, she also has been selected to
the ALBANY TIMES UNION's Small School All-Star team three times, once as
Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Ailayia Demand has been a member of the Colonial Council
All-Star team for four years, and was its Most Valuable Player in 2012;
she has also been the Class B Sectional Most Valuable Player on two
occasions; and
WHEREAS, During her high school career, Ailayia Demand was selected to
the All-State team for the past three seasons; her teams have won three
Sectional Titles, two Regional Championships and twice advanced to the
New York State Final Four; and
WHEREAS, Ailayia Demand has consistently demonstrated superior leader-
ship and a positive attitude in both her school and community, making
her an outstanding role model for younger players looking to follow in
her footsteps; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Ailayia Demand's dedication to basket-
ball is a year-round, everyday commitment; she is highly focused and has
developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Ailayia Demand's exemplary performance in basketball is
reflective of her dedication, determination and personal commitment; her
achievements stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families,
schools and communities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ailayia Demand upon the occasion of breaking the Watervliet High
School Varsity Girls' Basketball Team's all-time scoring record, and to
commend her for the enduring honor she has brought to her family, her
school and her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ailayia Demand.
