LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  honoring Tamika D. Mallory upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the King of Kings  Foundation
Inc. on June 7, 2014

WHEREAS,  Individuals  who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
  WHEREAS, Tamika D. Mallory has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly  proud  to  honor  Tamika  D.
Mallory  upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the King of Kings Foundation Inc., to be celebrated  at  its  Black  Tie
Awards Gala on Saturday, June 7, 2014; and
  WHEREAS,  Nationally  recognized  for  her  strong  stance  on women's
issues, anti-violence, voter rights, and young adult advocacy, Tamika D.
Mallory is the Founder of Mallory Consulting, LLC, and former  Executive
Director  of  the  National  Action Network, one of the nation's leading
civil rights organizations; and
  WHEREAS, Tamika D. Mallory has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and  has  always
given of herself unstintingly; and
  WHEREAS,  Since  losing  her son's father to gun violence 13 years ago
when her child was just two years old, Tamika  D.  Mallory  has  been  a
tireless anti-violence advocate; she has been featured across major news
media and other mediums as a leading voice on key social justice issues,
particularly relating to gun violence; and
  WHEREAS,  In  2013,  Tamika D. Mallory served as an expert panelist on
Bishop TD Jake's program on  BET,  "Mind,  Body  and  Soul",  where  she
fiercely  advocated  for  increased  community  involvement and personal
responsibility in reducing gun violence; and
  WHEREAS, As the New York City Co-Chair for the Gun Violence  Awareness
Month  Initiative,  Tamika D. Mallory works with local and state govern-
ment, grassroots organizations, and corporations to create  a  statewide
program  of education and awareness around gun violence intervention and
prevention; and
  WHEREAS, Today, Tamika D. Mallory is a contributor for  ESSENCE  MAGA-
ZINE  with  a  column called "Women to Watch" where she shines the spot-
light on female leaders around the United States; she  also  writes  for
NewsOne.com  where she writes "The Lookout", a weekly column on politics
and social issues; and
  WHEREAS, The proud recipient of countless awards and accolades, Tamika
D.   Mallory was called  the  "Sojourner  Truth  of  Our  Time"  in  JET
MAGAZINE, and was publicly applauded as "a leader of tomorrow" by Senior
Advisor to President Barack Obama, Valerie B. Jarrett; and
  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  entire  period  of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Tamika D. Mallory has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
  WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which  Tamika  D.  Mallory  has  displayed
throughout her life; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
honor Tamika D. Mallory upon the occasion of her designation for special

recognition by the King of Kings Foundation Inc. on June 7, 2014; and be
it further
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tamika D. Mallory.
