LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of George Williams, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, George Williams died on Monday, September 3, 2012, at the age
of 77; and
WHEREAS, George Williams served as Oswego County Clerk for more than
30 years, beginning in January of 1981; and
WHEREAS, George Williams was the longest serving elected County Clerk
in New York State; and
WHEREAS, George Williams was born and raised in Camden, New York,
graduating from Camden High School and working in various sales posi-
tions in the Syracuse area; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, George Williams was elected as a member of the Oswe-
go County legislature, also serving one year on the Phoenix school
board, and as Chairman of the Oswego County Republican Committee from
2003 to 2010; and
WHEREAS, In addition, George Williams served as President of the Coun-
ty Clerk's Association, and received its County Clerk of the Year Award
as well as its Lifetime Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, George Williams is remembered fondly as a mentor to county
clerks around New York State for his wisdom and experience, and for his
sense of humor and his love of helping people; and
WHEREAS, George Williams distinguished himself by his sincere dedi-
cation and substantial contributions to the welfare of his community;
and
WHEREAS, George Williams is survived by his wife, Norma, and his four
children and six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, George Williams leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of George Williams, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of George Williams.
