LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Thomas Blumenfeld of Albany, New York,
upon the occasion of capturing the 2013 National Silver Gloves Champion-
ship

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor
Thomas Blumenfeld of Albany, New York, upon the occasion of capturing
the 2013 National Silver Gloves Championship; and
WHEREAS, An honor roll student who trains at the City of Albany boxing
program, Thomas Blumenfeld is a 15 year old ninth grader at Green Tech
Charter High School in Albany, New York; he first joined a boxing
program at the age of eight; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Blumenfeld captured the 2013 National Silver Gloves
Championship in the 90-pound division by defeating Dylan Price by a 5-0
shutout in the finals held at Independence, Missouri; this outstanding
victory established him as the number one nationally ranked boxer in the
14 and 15 year old age group in the 90-pound weight class; in the semi-
final match he also defeated by a shutout, last year's champion; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Thomas Blumenfeld was the runner-up in the National
Golden Gloves competition, as well as the runner-up in the Silver Gloves
competition; in addition, he was the 2012 Elite Heat National Champion
and the 2012 Independent Golden Gloves Champion; and
WHEREAS, The goal of Thomas Blumenfeld is to represent the United
States as a member of the 2016 Olympic boxing team; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Blumenfeld's strongest asset is his love of the sport,
drive and desire to learn; he listens, asks questions and sticks with
the plan; he is an excellent role model for others in the City of Albany
boxing program; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Thomas Blumenfeld's dedication to
boxing is a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and
has developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Blumenfeld's exemplary performance in boxing is
reflective of his dedication, determination and personal commitment; his
achievements stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families,
schools and communities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Thomas Blumenfeld of Albany, New York, upon the occasion of
capturing the 2013 National Silver Gloves Championship, and to commend
him for the enduring honor he has brought to his family, school and
community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Thomas Blumenfeld.
