LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Janifer Lynn Lighten upon the occasion
of her designation as the recipient of the Community Champion Award by
the Young Women's Christian Association of White Plains on May 7, 2010

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Janifer Lynn Lighten upon the occasion of her designation as the recipi-
ent of the Community Champion Award by the Young Women's Christian Asso-
ciation of White Plains at its second annual In the Company of Women
Luncheon held on Friday, May 7, 2010; and
WHEREAS, A woman of singular distinction, Janifer Lynn Lighten has
continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence
and diligent leadership in her unwavering service to her community and
subsequently has been selected for this most prestigious commendation;
and
WHEREAS, Janifer Lynn Lighten earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from
Yale University and a Master's of Business Administration degree from
Columbia University's Graduate School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Janifer Lynn Lighten went on to serve as a
Manager of the Corporate Banking group for the Royal Bank of Canada in
New York before leaving the corporate world to care for her children;
and
WHEREAS, As a full-time mother, Janifer Lynn Lighten turned her formi-
dable talents to the non-profit sector in her beloved community of New
Rochelle, New York; she became involved in the Boys and Girls Club of
New Rochelle, where she presently serves as a Director on the Board; she
has also applied her considerable gifts to other community organiza-
tions, serving as past Director on the Board of the New Rochelle Overall
Economic Development Corporation and past Director on the Board of the
New Rochelle Public Library Foundation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Janifer Lynn Lighten serves as Director of the
Remington Leadership Financial Literacy Program at the Remington Unit of
the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle and was a co-founder of the
Grace Innovation Ministry, an investment fund at Mount Vernon's Grace
Baptist Church; she currently serves on the Head of School Committee and
the Executive Board of the Horace Mann School in the Riverdale neighbor-
hood of the Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Janifer Lynn Lighten has served as past Vice
President and past Treasurer of the Parent Teachers Association at
William B. Ward School and she has volunteered as a Leader of the Girl
Scouts of Westchester-Putnam; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts of in-depth magnitude, Janifer
Lynn Lighten is the recipient of a multitude of awards and accolades;
she was honored by the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle with their
Service to Youth Award and is co-founder of a leadership program which
received the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award for Social Action; she
was also recognized as a member of the Circle of Red sponsored by the
American Heart Association of Westchester and the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Jani-
fer Lynn Lighten over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Janifer Lynn Lighten upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of the Community Champion Award by the Young Women's Christian
Association of White Plains on May 7, 2010; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Janifer Lynn Lighten.
