LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Something Positive, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting its Annual Gala

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention to
organizations that devote their time and energies to the cultural
enrichment of the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Something Positive, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Gala on
Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, This fine event will feature "Ancestral Chant" which cele-
brates the life and artistic legacy of an iconic stalwart of African
American and Caribbean Culture; this individual was Cheryl Byron, the
Rapso music pioneer, dancer and founder of Something Positive, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Something Positive, Inc. is an African Caribbean performance
arts organization dedicated to the art and culture of the African Dias-
pora; utilizing a unique blend of poetry, storytelling, theater, music
and dance, it specializes in multi-media performing art presentation;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to participating with other community and inter-
national organizations in exhibitions, conferences, tours, conventions
and various educational programs, Something Positive, Inc. works in
collaboration with several organizations including Caribbean Cultural
Center, American Museum of Natural History, Henry Street Settlement
Theater and the West Indian American Day Carnival Association; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts of
our Nation, to honor our artists, and to express our appreciation to
everyone who patronizes the arts; and as we celebrate the arts, we cele-
brate and give thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in
which artists can truly create and in which art is truly the expression
of the soul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Something Positive, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual
Gala; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Something Positive, Inc.
