LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chiropractor Dr. Richard Craft as he
celebrates 60 years of building strength and going strong

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that individuals who
distinguish themselves in their profession and in service to their
community merit the highest commendation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ellenville, New York Chiropractor Dr. Richard Craft as he celebrates 60
years of building strength and going strong; and
WHEREAS, Retirement is not something Dr. Craft looks forward to; he is
enjoying his 60th year of providing chiropractic care to the hundreds of
patients who have visited his North Main Street office where Craft
Chiropractic has been a village mainstay since 1953; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Ellenville, in his junior year of high
school, Dr. Craft's future was strongly influenced by the occurrence of
an accident in which his grandfather was seriously injured and greatly
benefited from his treatment by Chiropractor Dr. Joseph Mason who had an
office in the village and had treated Dr. Craft's mother; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Craft's grandfather went to his first visit in a wheel-
chair and by the next spring was back on his tractor, a fact which made
such a big impression on Dr. Craft that after graduating from Ellenville
High School, he left his beloved Ellenville for New York City to be
educated in chiropractic methods; and
WHEREAS, Before long Dr. Craft was back in Ellenville with his chirop-
ractic degree and was treating patients in his parents' living room on
Warren Street; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Craft and his wife Dale were married in September 1953
and, two months later, he set up his practice in a house at 38 North
Main Street; Dale's father, a contractor, created office space in the
front of the house and Richard and Dale lived in two rooms in the back
and, Dale, trained in office skills, became the Office Manager, a title
she holds to this day; and
WHEREAS, The family has since moved to a home in Wawarsing, but the
office stands as proudly on North Main Street as it did 60 years ago;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Craft's son, Dr. Mark Craft, followed in his footsteps
and joined the practice, along with his wife, Dr. Allise A. Marter; Dr.
Joseph F. Grable, along with two full-time and two part-time staff round
out the practice; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his practice, Dr. Craft is an involved and
valued member of his community; and
WHEREAS, He is a member of Gideons International, the Sportsmen's
Association, the Noonday Club, and several other organizations and is a
founding member of the Community Bible Church in Wawarsing; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 2000, he served two terms as Wawarsing Town
Supervisor and is justly proud of his role in the revamping of the Napa-
noch water supply, keeping the Ellenville Hospital intact, the opening
of a day-care center at the old Napanoch school, and the growing success
of the Joseph Y. Resnick Airport and, he is, in addition, in appreci-
ation of the knives which were once manufactured in Ellenville, a found-
er of the Knife Museum expected to open in the summer of 2013; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor, in recognition and appreciation of his dedication, commitment and
service to his community, its citizens, and his profession, Chiropractor

Dr. Richard Craft as he continues to go strong and proudly celebrates
60 years of building strength; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Richard Craft.
