LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 37th Annual Mid-Hudson St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 10, 2013, and honoring the memory of
Father John (Jack) Logan, O. Carm., who had been designated Grand
Marshal of the Parade

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage of
the Irish people, unlimited in their contribution to this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and provides an opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 37th
Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 10, 2013, and to
honor the memory of the late Father John (Jack) Logan, O. Carm., who,
prior to his death, had joyfully been designated Grand Marshal of the
Parade, to be held in Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, Organizers of this fine event, the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's
Parade Committee, is comprised of representatives of several Orange
County organizations; the parade is the largest cultural event in Orange
County and is also the biggest single-day celebration in Goshen; the
parade, which will be 37 years old this year, is expected to draw 25,000
plus spectators; and
WHEREAS, Father Jack had his roots in Brooklyn, while his parents hail
from County Galway; his family later settled in the Bronx where he
attended Cardinal Hayes High School; he was a member of the Carmelite
Friars in Middletown, which was founded by Carmelites from Dublin; and
WHEREAS, He was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and was an
educator for 14 years; he then served as Chaplain at Bellevue Hospital
for 29 years; Father Jack had a keen love for Irish music and humor; in
2008, he began serving as Chaplain for AOH Division 4 and, all who knew
him knew that St. Patrick's Day had a very special meaning to him; and
WHEREAS, Sadly, Father Jack entered into eternal rest on January 2,
2013; his contribution to the Irish community will continue with a cele-
bration of his life; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated, joyful and hard-working Carmelite, Reverend John
Colman Logan was a professed member of the Carmelite Order for 55 years
and a priest for 48 years; he was dearly loved by his family, Carmelite
brothers and the Irish community; cherished by all, he will be greatly
missed; and
WHEREAS, His sister Bridget Logan Wilson and fellow Carmelite Priests
will stand in for him as Grand Marshal and, in so doing will honor his
life of caring and giving to his fellow man; and
WHEREAS, Fr. Jack was greatly honored to have been nominated to serve
as the 2013 Grand Marshal and so very proud of his Irish heritage, the
nomination for Grand Marshal gave him comfort in his last days; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish Culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, Through this heartfelt and compassionate expression, as well
as through their sustained commitment to the cultural vitality of their
Irish heritage, the Irish-American people of Orange County, the Mid-Hud-
son area and the State of New York bear witness to the deep faith and
love of humanity which is their rich tradition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 37th Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade to be
held on March 10, 2013, and to honor the memory of Father John (Jack)
Logan, O. Carm.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Committee, and to the
family of the late Father John (Jack) Logan, O. Carm., who, prior to his
untimely death had been thrilled and greatly honored to have been named
Grand Marshal of the 2013 Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade.
