LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the Town
of New Windsor

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and commem-
orate the distinguished histories of the communities which comprise the
noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 250th Anniversary of the Town of New Windsor, in Orange Coun-
ty, New York; and
WHEREAS, In April of 2013, the Town of New Windsor will begin a year-
long celebration of its 250th Anniversary; events to commemorate this
celebration include a special contingent in the Memorial Day Parade; a
concert during the New Windsor Summer Concert Series; a booth at New
Windsor Community Day and a series of lectures on historical issues that
will be held throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Town of New Windsor will be producing a
16-month long commemorative calendar that will include photographs of
the Town from the past through the present; the calendar will highlight
the beauty and uniqueness of the Town; and
WHEREAS, The Town of New Windsor officially came into being on April
5, 1763, pursuant to the directions of an act of the Governor, Counsel
and General Assembly of the Province of New York; New York's Provincial
Assembly divided Newburgh and New Windsor into two separate precincts,
both of which, at that time, were located in Ulster County; and
WHEREAS, Home to Stewart International Airport and the National Purple
Heart Hall of Honor, the Town of New Windsor is also home to a number of
important historic sites, including the New Windsor Cantonment, which
served as an encampment housing roughly 8,000 military men, women and
children at the end of the Revolutionary War; and
WHEREAS, New Windsor functioned as an active military depot, in part,
due to its proximity to West Point, Albany and Kingston, New York's
capital at that time; the Fishkill and New Windsor Ferry was one of the
main routes used for shipping supplies to and from New England; and
WHEREAS, With good fortune and a vast history, the Town of New Windsor
will continue to march forward, on not only the national, but global
scene for years to come; and
WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of growth
and change, the Town of New Windsor continues its commitment to enhanc-
ing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive business,
institutional and educational climate, and providing all essential
services; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Town of New Windsor, recogniz-
ing the significance of the role it continues to play in the life of the
community of the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Town of New Windsor 250th Anniversary Committee.
