LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tracy Robertson for his 50 years of
distinguished service to the Indian River School District

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tracy Robert-
son upon the occasion of his 50 years of distinguished service to the
Indian River School District; and
WHEREAS, Tracy Robertson, a graduate of Edinboro University in Penn-
sylvania, was hired as an art teacher for the Indian River High School
in 1962, later transferring to the middle school; and
WHEREAS, Tracy Robertson is the longest serving teacher in the history
of the school district; and
WHEREAS, For many years the only African-American teacher in the
school district, Tracy Robertson witnessed a diversity boom in the
school district in the 1980s when Camp Drum became Fort Drum with an
influx of soldiers and their families, and he served as a role model for
young minority students; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his distinguished career as an art teacher,
Tracy Robertson has been involved with musical groups including the
Barbershop Harmony Society, competing in barbershop musical competitions
and directing the Northern Blend Chorus, through which he met his wife,
Kari; and
WHEREAS, Known for his fun loving spirit, Tracy Roberton's passion for
teaching and his love for children has kept him teaching into his 70s
with no plans for retirement; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that indi-
vidual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tracy Robertson for his 50 years of devoted service to the Indian
River School District; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tracy Robertson.
