LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of The Reverend Wenzell Phil-
lip Jackson, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson of the Bronx, New York,
died on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the age of 47; and
WHEREAS, Originally from San Francisco, California, The Reverend
Wenzell Phillip Jackson arrived at the Mount Hermon Baptist Church at
the corner of Nelson Avenue and 167th Street, Bronx, New York, in 2003;
and
WHEREAS, The Senior Pastor of the Mount Hermon Baptist Church for the
past decade, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson was also the Chairman
of Community Board Number 4 in the Bronx, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson headed the
44th Precinct Clergy Council; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson began his preaching
ministry at 18 years old in April of 1985 at the Tabernacle of Faith
Baptist Church of San Francisco; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Jackson earned his Bachelor's of Theology from the
Andersonville Baptist Theology Seminary, and was honored with an Honor-
ary Doctorate of Ministry from ABG Theology Seminary; and
WHEREAS, The passing of The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson is a
significant loss for the Bronx and for the community he so strongly and
passionately served as both a public servant and clergy leader; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson is survived by his wife
of 24 years, Tamara Jackson; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson leaves behind a legacy
which will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comfort-
ing memory to all he served and befriended; he will be remembered as
someone who made a positive difference in the lives of others; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of The Reverend Wenzell Phillip Jackson.
