LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jeffrey Hafner Endler of Loudon-
ville, New York, upon the occasion of winning the National Geographic
Kids International Photo Contest

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those young people who by their accomplishments, have
inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jeffrey Hafner Endler of Loudonville, New York, upon the occasion
of winning the National Geographic Kids International Photo Contest; and
WHEREAS, This special photo contest was for aspiring photographers
aged six-14; Jeffrey Endler won first place in the "People" category in
the United States division of the contest which was awarded in December
of 2012; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey Endler took the winning photograph while on a trip
with his mother, several other adults and nine other students from the
Woodland Hill Montessori School; the trip was a visit to Woodland Hill
Montessori School's sister school, the Sinai Primary School, in Babati,
Tanzania, in August of 2012; and
WHEREAS, The trip was organized by Karen Cavanagh and John Mason of
Water Power Peace, a project formed in 2008 with a goal of bringing safe
water to Babati; the project began when WHMS teachers as well as scien-
tists of Sabre Technical Services and engineers went to the Sinai School
and designed a playground to generate electricity for the school; and
WHEREAS, Several other groups have gone on this particular trip
before, but this past one was particularly unique being that the
students had been pen pals with Babati students for almost three years
and were finally able to meet their long-distance friends; over the
course of the trip, Woodland Hill Montessori School students worked on
several projects with the Sinai School, including teaching various
subjects like art and spelling in English; and
WHEREAS, Documenting the journey in photographs has always been an
integral part of the trip, and this year, Jeffrey Endler and his mother,
Lise, were in charge of taking most of the photos; he shot the winning
photo with a Nikon D300 camera that he borrowed from his grandmother;
and
WHEREAS, By winning first place, Jeffrey Endler received a Canon
Powershot camera and copies of several National Geographic books; his
photo, along with the other winners, will appear in the May 2013
NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS MAGAZINE; and
WHEREAS, Currently a freshman at Shaker High School, Jeffrey Endler
attended Woodland Hill Montessori School from kindergarten through 8th
grade; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose,
Jeffrey Endler now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplish-
ments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers,
his parents, and his school; and
WHEREAS, In achieving this outstanding accomplishment, Jeffrey Endler
may take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence he brings to his family, friends, and his community; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jeffrey Hafner Endler of Loudonville, New York, upon the
occasion of winning the National Geographic Kids International Photo
Contest; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jeffrey Hafner Endler.
