LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Friends of the Batavia Peace
Garden upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2012
Innovative Community Contribution of the Year Award by the Genesee Coun-
ty Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business organ-
izations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2012 Innovative Community Contribution
of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated at the Chamber's Annual Awards Ceremo-
ny, to be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Clarion Hotel; and
WHEREAS, The Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden was dedicated on
Sunday, May 6, 2012; the dedication culminated two years of intense work
by volunteers and supporters of this worthy effort; and
WHEREAS, Signifying 200 years of peace between Canada and the United
States, the Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden is part of a network of
22 peace gardens stretching from Buffalo to Oswego, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Batavia Peace Garden marks the historic landmark location
which served as the rallying point during the War of 1812 where the
Batavia residents offered shelter for those fleeing the devastation of
the war; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Friends of the
Batavia Peace Garden of Batavia, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the 2012 Innovative Community
Contribution of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden, Batavia, New York.
