LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Oliver's Candies of Batavia, New
York, upon the occasion of its designation as the recipient of the 2012
Business of the Year Award by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business organ-
izations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Oliver's Candies of Batavia, New York, upon the occasion of its
designation as the recipient of the 2012 Business of the Year Award by
the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; this auspicious occasion will be
celebrated at the Chamber's Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held on Satur-
day, April 13, 2013, at the Clarion Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1932 by Joseph Boyd Oliver, Oliver's Candies
of Batavia, New York, celebrated its 80th year in business in 2012; and
WHEREAS, The founder of Oliver's Candies developed such now-famous
products as Cashew Glaze and Hostess Squares; he sold the business in
1960; and
WHEREAS, Currently owned and operated by the Quincey family, Oliver's
Candies has 29 employees, several who have been with the company for
over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Oliver's Candies continues to flourish as a destination
retail attraction, drawing locals and visitors alike for its renowned
quality chocolates; the company's products are also now available to
consumers all over the world through its online store; and
WHEREAS, Oliver's Candies has always taken an active role in the Gene-
see County community; it has supported the Chamber of Commerce's Tourism
Committee and its staff has contributed greatly to initiatives related
to the BEA, Batavia Rotary, and economic development; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Oliver's Candies is involved in multiple commu-
nity activities, including youth bureau, youth sports programs, YMCA,
YWCA, Office of the Aging, the Jaycees, Go Art, and Meals on Wheels; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Oliver's Candies
of Batavia, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Oliver's Candies of Batavia, New York, upon the occasion of
its designation as the recipient of the 2012 Business of the Year Award
by the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Oliver's Candies, Batavia, New York.
