LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim April 22-26, 2013, as Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in
the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who give
outstanding service to the people of this Empire State and whose
extraordinary achievements save lives and keep people healthy profoundly
strengthen our shared commitment to family and community life; and
WHEREAS, In conjunction with the observance of National Medical Labo-
ratory Professionals Week, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 22-26, 2013, as
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, A key member of a health care team, there are more than
300,000 practitioners of clinical laboratory science in the United
States; since the development of this career group in the 1920s, they
have played an increasingly vital role in the diagnosis and prevention
of disease; and
WHEREAS, As team members of one of the largest industries in the
United States, the dedicated efforts of laboratory professionals often
go unnoticed by the general public, as well as by the very institutions
employing their services; and
WHEREAS, With the public now demanding the assurance of quality health
care and professional accountability, the essential role of the medical
laboratory professional has increased significantly; and
WHEREAS, Americans benefit daily from the knowledge and skills of
these highly trained individuals and it is appropriate to recognize the
value and accomplishments of medical laboratory professionals by desig-
nating a special week in their honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim April 22-26, 2013, as
Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in the State of New York; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York, and to Gail Konecsni, President of the New York Chapter of the
American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.
