LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 15th Anniversary Dinner of the
Brian Ahearn Children's Fund, November 23, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 15th Anniversary Dinner of the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund;
this auspicious event will be celebrated on Saturday, November 23, 2013;
and
WHEREAS, The Brian Ahearn Children's Fund was founded in 1998 in memo-
ry of Brian, a 13-year old Warwick, New York, boy who succumbed to brain
cancer that year; and
WHEREAS, The primary mission of the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund is to
assist needy children, or families with children in need, whose primary
residence is within Orange, Ulster or Sullivan counties; and
WHEREAS, Children or families eligible for assistance from the Brian
Ahearn Children's Fund include seriously ill or disabled children;
orphaned children or children affected by the death of a guardian serv-
ing as the family's main source of income; and homeless children or
children who have been seriously affected by fire or other natural
disasters; and
WHEREAS, The secondary objective of the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund
is to provide donations for two scholarships annually for college-bound
students of the Warwick Valley Central School District; these students
must have demonstrated considerable achievement in the face of adver-
sity, or have shown extreme courage or athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, In its 14 plus years of providing financial assistance to
families with seriously ill children in the mid-Hudson Valley of New
York, the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund has provided significant funds to
more than 450 families; and
WHEREAS, In addition, since 1999 the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund has
awarded 55 scholarships to college-bound graduating seniors from the
Warwick area who have overcome adversity or profound hardship; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Brian Ahearn
Children's Fund; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
organizations such as the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund, which serve to
bring people together for the united purpose of actively pursuing
improvements in their communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 15th Anniversary Dinner of the Brian Ahearn Children's
Fund; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brian Ahearn Children's Fund.
