LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of The Hicks-
ville Gregory Museum

WHEREAS, it is the sense of, this Legislative Body that the quality of
life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions; and
WHEREAS, It is also the sense of this Legislative Body that insti-
tutions that give positive definition to the profile and disposition of
the communities of the State of New York profoundly strengthen our soci-
ety with their commitment; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of The Hicksville Gregory Museum in Hicks-
ville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Located at One Heitz Place in Hicksville, New York, The
Hicksville Gregory Museum celebrated its 50th Anniversary with a special
program hosted by Museum President Richard Althaus entitled, "50 Years
of Service of The Gregory Museum"; and
WHEREAS, The Hicksville Gregory Museum was originally housed at the
Cottage Boulevard home of its namesake, Dr. Gardiner Gregory and his
wife, Anne; its present location was once a vital village hall and
courthouse built in the late 1800s; and
WHEREAS, The mission of The Hicksville Gregory Museum is to create an
awareness of and an interest in earth science, natural history and local
history through: the collection, preservation and exhibition of speci-
mens and artifacts; publications; and educational programs; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its President, Richard Althaus,
The Hicksville Gregory Museum is writing its own page in Hicksville, New
York's history as a thriving and innovative educational and scientific
institution that is home to regular school tours and projects, and
natural history collections, including those of fossils, minerals and
butterflies; and
WHEREAS, On Wednesday, May 1, 2013, there will be a special anniver-
sary celebration for The Hicksville Gregory Museum, to be held at the
Milleridge Inn in Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to The Hicksville
Gregory Museum in Hicksville, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of The Hicksville Gregory Museum; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Althaus, President, The Hicksville Gregory Museum.
