LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Helen Moran upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Helen
Moran upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Ray and Tina Wood, Helen was born on Satur-
day, August 23, 1913, in Rockville Centre, New York; she was the only
sister of three brothers, Walter, Eddie and Bob; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, A 1931 graduate of South Side High School, despite the Great
Depression, Helen was able to find work as a secretary at her father's
workplace, Borden's Milk Company; it was here she met her future
husband, Peter S. Moran; and
WHEREAS, The young couple were engaged in 1936, married in 1937, and
became the loving parents of one son, Peter, in 1940; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Helen Moran moved to the Panama
Canal Zone during World War II in order to be with her husband, a civil-
ian worker in the United States Navy; and
WHEREAS, At the end of the war, the Moran family returned to Rockville
Centre, where Helen worked for the Telephone Company and dedicated
herself to making a loving home for her family; and
WHEREAS, Helen Moran moved to Oceanside, New York, in 1952, and
enjoyed life with her husband until his passing in 2003; having returned
to Rockville Centre in 2012, she will celebrate her 100th Birthday in
the village of her birth; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Helen Moran upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Helen Moran.
