LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lawrence Shore upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2012 Volunteerism Award by the Senior
Services of Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Shore has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Lawrence Shore
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2012 Volunteer-
ism Award by the Senior Services of Albany, celebrated at its Third Age
Achievement Awards Event on Friday, November 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Shore has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Shore is a veteran of the United States Army and
worked for over 22 years at GE in Schenectady; and
WHEREAS, After retiring in 1983, Lawrence Shore started Lawrence
Insurance Group; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, Lawrence Shore decided to retire from insurance and
has spent his time volunteering in a variety of organizations including
the University at Albany Foundation, the Advisory Board at Albany Life
Long Learning, Mohawk-Hudson Planned Parenthood, Albany County Chamber
of Commerce, and the Empire State Youth Orchestra, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, For the past seven years, Lawrence Shore has been a dedicated
volunteer for the Capital Region Sponsor-a-Scholar where he has served
as a board member, treasurer and a mentor to the students; and
WHEREAS, Lawrence Shore enjoys getting to know high school students
and being a positive influence in their educational goals, as well as
assisting them in getting into college; and
WHEREAS, His passion for helping children reach their highest educa-
tional goals is evident; this passion earned him an award of Citizen of
the Year in 2010, bestowed upon him by the University at Albany; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Lawrence Shore has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Lawrence Shore has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lawrence Shore upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2012 Volunteerism Award by the Senior Services of Albany; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lawrence Shore.
