LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Eric Weaver upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Constance E. Miller Award of Excellence
by the Mental Health Association of Genesee County

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Eric Weaver
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Constance E.
Miller Award of Excellence by the Mental Health Association of Genesee
County; and
WHEREAS, The Constance E. Miller Award of Excellence is given annually
to an individual or an organization that demonstrates a commitment to
excellence pertinent to the delivery and/or advocacy of quality communi-
ty-based mental health services within Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver has dedicated his life to helping those struggl-
ing with depression, suicidal impulses and other mental health concerns
by sharing both his vast professional knowledge and his own individual
struggles; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver's long and varied career in the field of mental
health is extraordinary; he is a retired Sergeant of the Rochester
Police Department, former Director of the Association for Suicide
Prevention, and former Executive and Counseling Pastor of Crosswinds
Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua, New York; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver holds a certificate in Biblical Counseling from
the American Association of Christian Counselors; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Eric Weaver is the founder and director of Over-
coming the Darkness, a training and consulting business providing
keynote addresses and training seminars on a broad range of mental
health topics; he is also a certified instructor in several highly
regarded suicide prevention and intervention curricula; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver's crucial work has been of lasting benefit to
mental health professionals, individuals, families and communities
throughout the State of New York; he was the creator, developer, and
Commanding Officer of the Emotionally Disturbed Persons Response Team
(EDPRT) of the Rochester Police Department, and he assisted in the
creation of similar teams in the police departments of Troy, New York
and Binghamton, New York; he was also coordinator of the EDPRT
Basic/Advanced School, one of the largest police mental health-training
courses in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Eric Weaver served as both Area Director and Chair of the
Board of Directors for the Western New York Chapter of the American
Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), serves as a member of the
Board of Directors for the Suicide Intervention Skills Trainer Consorti-
um of New York and the National Alliance on Mental Illness
(NAMI)-Rochester, NY Advisory Board; he is also a member of the
Depression and Bi-Polar Support Alliance's (DBSA) National Speaker's
Bureau; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Eric Weaver
has been featured in TIME, DETAILS, READER'S DIGEST, and on the website
Web/MD, as well as in various news publications and local television

programs; he is a member of the Cambridge Who's Who Registry of Business
Executives and Professionals; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Eric Weaver has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Eric Weaver has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Eric Weaver upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Constance E. Miller Award of Excellence by the Mental Health Associ-
ation of Genesee County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eric Weaver.
