LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Martha Lepow upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2012 Medicine Award by the Senior
Services of Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martha Lepow has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Martha
Lepow upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2012
Medicine Award by the Senior Services of Albany, celebrated at its Third
Age Achievement Awards Event on Friday, November 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martha Lepow has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martha Lepow is a dedicated pediatrician and world
renowned expert in infectious diseases of children; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Oberlin College and the Western Reserve Univer-
sity College of Medicine, Dr. Martha Lepow served on the faculty at Case
Western University at Metropolitan Hospital and then joined the faculty
of the University of Connecticut Medical School; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Martha Lepow joined Albany Medical Center's Pediatrics
program in 1978 and chaired the department for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Martha Lepow served as Director of the
Cystic Fibrosis Center and was Program Director of the Clinical Studies
Center at AMC for almost 10 years; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Dr. Martha Lepow was appointed Director of Excel-
lence in Pediatric and Adolescent Care funded by the New York State
Health Department and the Ryan White Fund in the Medical College; and
WHEREAS, A recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Dr. Martha
Lepow is a published author of 80 major papers on infectious diseases;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Martha Lepow has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Martha Lepow has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Martha Lepow upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2012 Medicine Award by the Senior Services of Albany; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Martha Lepow.
