LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Barbara McGuinness upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2012 Volunteerism Award by the
Senior Services of Albany

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Barbara McGuinness has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Barbara
McGuinness upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2012
Volunteerism Award by the Senior Services of Albany, celebrated at its
Third Age Achievement Awards Event on Friday, November 16, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Barbara McGuinness has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University at Pittsburgh with a master's
degree in Public Health, Barbara McGuinness also attended West Chester
University where she received her bachelor's degree in Education, and
Lenox Hill Hospital where she earned a diploma in Nursing; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional woman has spent her life helping others
through numerous avenues; and
WHEREAS, Barbara McGuinness has been an educator in Nursing, a staff
Nurse, Clinical Supervisor at Cornell University NY Hospital, Vice Pres-
ident of Patient Care Services and Director of Physician Services for
the New York State Department of Health/Office of Professional Medical
Conduct; and
WHEREAS, Barbara McGuinness' varied background and career has allowed
her to provide consulting services to organizations and individuals
involved with and committed to the population of persons in need of long
term care; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community, Barbara
McGuinness serves on the Board of Directors at Our Lady of Mercy Life
Center and Villa Mary Immaculate Nursing Center; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Barbara McGuinness has volunteered as a grief coun-
selor, provided home visits to those who are homebound, volunteered at
St. Max Soup Kitchen and provided friendly visits to the hospital for
members of First Lutheran Church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Barbara McGuinness has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Barbara McGuinness has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barbara McGuinness upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the 2012 Volunteerism Award by the Senior Services of Albany; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara McGuinness.
