LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ralph and Irmgard Buess of the George
Mann Tory Tavern upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations that give of their time and
energies and serve the best interests of their communities are an asset
beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Ralph and Irmgard Buess of the George Mann Tory Tavern upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the 2012 Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce; this auspicious occa-
sion will be celebrated at the annual dinner meeting of the chamber, to
be held on Friday, March 15, 2013, at Caverns Palace Restaurant in Howes
Cave, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ralph and Irmgard Buess are the owners of the George Mann
Tory Tavern in Schoharie, New York; they purchased the Tavern in 1977;
and
WHEREAS, The George Mann Tory Tavern in Schoharie, New York, is a
well-known landmark, graciously displaying the classical splendor of the
late 1700s and early 1800s; during the Revolutionary War, it was known
as "The Brick House at the Forks in the Road" because the roads were
toll roads to Albany and Duanesburg; and
WHEREAS, In addition to owning the George Mann Tory Tavern, Ralph and
Irmgard Buess have been active in the Schoharie community for many
years; they have prepared food for the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Asso-
ciation's Antiques in Schoharie events for 20 years and been similarly
active in Schoharie County Historical Society Stone Fort Days events;
and
WHEREAS, Honorary trustees of the Schoharie County Historical Society,
Ralph and Irmgard Buess are also founding members of the Schoharie
Valley Association which promotes businesses and farmers throughout the
Schoharie Valley; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ralph and Irmgard Buess are actively involved in
providing assistance to the Iroquois Indian Museum and the Schoharie
Promotional Association; and
WHEREAS, Ralph Buess is a 1965 graduate of Bethlehem Central High
School in Delmar, New York, and the Culinary Institute of America in New
Haven, Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, Prior to owning the George Mann Tory Tavern, Ralph Buess was
employed at the Mohawk Country Club and the Mohawk Club in Schenectady,
New York, the Boca Raton Hotel, the Bellevue Biltmore, Gulfstream Coun-
try Club and was a Lecturer in the Food Service Division at State
University of New York, Cobleskill; and
WHEREAS, Irmgard Buess is a 1965 graduate of Cherry Valley Central
School in Cherry Valley, New York; she attended the State University of
New York, Oswego, and received her Masters in Public Administration-Man-
agement Science from the State University of New York, Albany in 1974;
and

WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1996, Irmgard Buess was an associate professor
in the Computer Information Department at the State University of New
York, Cobleskill; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Ralph and Irmgard
Buess of the George Mann Tory Tavern in Schoharie, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ralph and Irmgard Buess of the George Mann Tory Tavern upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2012 Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ralph and Irmgard Buess.
