LEGISLATIVE  RESOLUTION  commemorating  the  21st Annual National Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Induction Ceremony on April 21, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to  recognize  promi-
nent  individuals  from  the sporting world who have distinguished them-
selves through exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented  success
and the highest level of personal achievement; and
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 21st
Annual National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum Induction Ceremony
to  be  held  at  the  Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center in Commack, New
York, on Sunday, April 21, 2013; and
  WHEREAS, The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame  and  Museum,  estab-
lished  in  1993, is an education museum which chronicles and celebrates
Jewish involvement in all sports; from boxing  to  football  to  tennis;
from basketball to baseball to swimming; from broadcaster's booth to the
sportswriter's  desk;  from  the playing field to the manager's bench to
the owner's office, Jewish people have made a significant impact on  the
world of sports; and
  WHEREAS,  More importantly, in focusing on sports, an aspect of Jewish
accomplishments with which too many are unfamiliar,  the  Hall  of  Fame
offers  a  starting  point for discussions of stereotypes and prejudice;
and
  WHEREAS, The National Jewish Sports Hall of  Fame  and  Museum  causes
people  to question the various stereotypes about diverse groups carried
in the minds of many people; and
  WHEREAS, The distinguished 2013 National Jewish Sports  Hall  of  Fame
inductees  are: David Berger, weightlifter; Andrew D. Bernstein, photog-
rapher; Richard Bernstein, disabled runner;  Steve  Bilsky,  basketball;
Bruce  Cohen,  lacrosse;  Randy Grossman, football; Aly Raisman, gymnas-
tics; Marilyn Ramenofsky, swimming; and  Garrett  Weber-Gale,  swimming;
and
  WHEREAS, In addition, Boyd Melson, boxer, will be the recipient of The
Dick  Steinberg Good Guy Award; and James Metzger, Chairman and CEO, The
Whitmore Group, will receive The George Young Award; and
  WHEREAS, The careers of the inductees of the  National  Jewish  Sports
Hall  of  Fame and Museum provide a legacy of commitment and excellence,
bringing them distinction and serving as inspiring models  for  all  who
aspire to growth and success; and
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought  to  our  atten-
tion,  they  should  be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause  in  its  deliberations  to
commemorate  the  21st  Annual  National  Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and
Museum Induction Ceremony on April 21, 2013, and to wish  the  inductees
continued success in all their future endeavors; and be it further
  RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted  to  the  National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, and to
each of the aforementioned inductees.
