LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the United Way of Sullivan County upon
the occasion of its 30th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations within the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
United Way of Sullivan County upon the occasion of its 30th Anniversary,
to be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Located in Monticello, New York, the United Way of Sullivan
County has helped find and provide support services to people in need in
the area for the past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, A member of United Way of America, the United Way of Sullivan
County operates as a private not-for-profit agency and receives no
financial support from the national organization or the government; and
WHEREAS, The United Way of Sullivan County depends on the kindness and
generosity of local businesses and individuals to carry out its mission
of mobilizing the caring power of the community through participation in
fundraising, volunteerism, advocacy, education and partnerships for the
purpose of improving lives and building a strong and vital region; and
WHEREAS, Among the numerous projects the United Way of Sullivan County
offers to the area are: 2-1-1, a collaborative effort with the United
Ways of Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester-Putnam that
developed and maintains Hudson Valley Region 2-1-1 to provide callers
throughout seven counties with comprehensive information and referral
for a wide variety of health and human service needs; Project Care, a
multifaceted endeavor that assures that families and children in need
are not overlooked during the holiday season; and Wardrobes For Work, a
joint venture formed by business and human service organizations in
Sullivan County which has been providing proper work attire to individ-
uals seeking or maintaining employment since 2001; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the United Way of Sullivan County conducts an
annual fundraising campaign to solicit corporate and individual gifts,
as well as employee payroll contributions, administers the local Emer-
gency Food and Shelter National Board Program and has been working with
other community partners to offer seminars that build awareness of the
growing gang problem that has now advanced into rural areas, such as
Sullivan County; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the United Way of Sullivan County is
in direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals who have
supported the development of this outstanding organization over the
years; and
WHEREAS, Equally commendable are the superbly-skilled staff at the
United Way of Sullivan County, whose involvement is and has always been
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all of their efforts on
behalf of the organization and the population it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the United Way of Sullivan County upon the occasion of its 30th
Anniversary, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the sparkl-
ing success which has so characterized its past; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the United Way of Sullivan County.
