LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ex-Chief Geoffrey P. Cole upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 38 years of
dedicated service to the Port Washington Volunteer Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to recognize and commend
Ex-Chief Geoffrey P. Cole upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition after 38 years of dedicated service to the Port
Washington Volunteer Fire Department, to be celebrated at its annual
installation dinner on Saturday, April 6, 2013; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Port Washington, Chief Geoffrey Cole
was elected to membership in the Flower Hill Hose Company in February of
1975; he has served the Flower Hill Hose Company in every firematic
position culminating with being the Company Captain in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Chief Cole was elected Second Assistant Chief for the first
time in March of 1989 and has gone on to serve as Chief of Department on
three separate occasions most recently ending his third term in office
in March of 2013; and
WHEREAS, Geoffrey Cole has served as a chief officer of this Depart-
ment for a combined total of 18 out of the past 24 years; during the six
years that he was not a chief officer, he served with distinction on the
Department's Board of Directors, including serving as the chairman of
the Board from 2004-2007; additionally, he serves as the chairman and
administrator of the Department's Length of Service Awards Program; and
WHEREAS, With Chief Geoffrey P. Cole throughout have been his wife,
Linda who feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Geof-
frey Cole is such a firefighter; throughout 38 years of devoted service,
this volunteer has heroically performed, above and beyond the call of
duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ex-Chief Geoffrey P. Cole upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition after 38 years of dedicated service to the Port
Washington Volunteer Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Geoffrey P. Cole.
